Food with flair
When it comes to catering with a mountain of flair - adding in weird and wonderful locations to present it just adds to the flavour for DeliStar's Jamie Phillips.
Whether it's for 10 or 500, Deli Star have served up culinary delights all around New Plymouth & beyond, in art galleries, oil & gas production stations, on the bridges of ships, for romantically remote weddings and even to prime ministers, the team at Deli Star will be sure to make your occasion one to remember.
As the recipient of no less than four national New Zealand culinary titles, and being awarded Taranaki's most outstanding caterer seven years in a row, Jamie's reputation spreads from taste of mouth as much as word of mouth.
To keep up with demand, Jamie have moved premises and doubled the size of their commercial kitchen with increased bench space, ovens, and chillers so the team can handle multiple catering productions at once, explains Jamie.
"What I love about catering is its variety," reveals Jamie - a professional chef who has run kitchens in Auckland, Sydney and England as well as Taranaki.
"Artistic flair is a big part of my approach - food needs to appeal to the eye first - and then to the taste buds."
From canapés in your office to 10-course degustation dinners in your home, tailoring menus to client's taste buds, as well as their budget is also part of Deli Star's offering.
"Every client is different so we don't just offer a standard catering menu. If they want to go wild - I'll go wild," says Jamie who has a reputation for molecular gastronomy - a style of cooking that "investigates the physical and chemical transformations of ingredients that occur while cooking".
This can mean using the freezing qualities of liquid nitrogen to make ice-cream and other delights - so if you want to know more, you just better call Jamie for a better explanation!
